Family Day

Itinerary

Join Ranger Nic and his family for the perfect Door County Day

Blue Horse for breakfast

Start the day at Blue Horse Cafe in Fish Creek (4113 Main Street). There are so many good sandwiches to choose from, our top pick is the Veg Out. Served on house-baked ciabatta, it includes guacamole, feta, egg, veggies, pickled onion, and the secret ingredient, Blue Horse Sandwich Sauce.

Dig in the sand

Head to Nicolet Beach for some time in the sand, digging your toes in, burying an unsuspecting parent, or challenging your sibling to a sandcastle-building competition. If you forgot your beach toys, no problem! You can stop at The Camp Store for sand buckets, shovels, balls, and beach floaties.

Lunch at Backbone Food Truck

Located opposite the rental booth at Nicolet Beach, Backbone Food Truck has sausages, schnitzel, fries, and cheese curds. Our suggestion is to try the Dutch Kibbeling: fresh flaky cod, beer battered, deep fried, and served with tartar or “knoflooksaus”. You can get a perch fry anywhere in Door County, but you can only get Kibbeling at Nicolet Beach!

Cool off in the lake

Enjoy the water with a leisurely swim or rent a paddleboard or kayak from Nicolet Beach Rentals for full family fun. Life jackets are included in rental and on calm days you can paddle to Horseshoe Island or around Eagle Bluff and under the spectacular Dolomite cliffs.

Coffee and ice cream treats

A full day of fun is hard work, so it's time for an afternoon pick-me-up! Caffeine fans can grab a coffee at Kitty’s Coffee Truck next to Backbone Food Truck (I highly recommend the coconut milk latte with a dash of caramel). Kids and parents might choose an ice cream novelty from the Camp Store. Grab a bomb pop or ice cream sandwich, or if you're feeling adventurous, try the dole whip (dairy-free) twist cup or chocolate and vanilla twist cup!

Cycle to Hill Street for dinner

Bike into Fish Creek for dinner at Hill Street (4149 WI-42 - across from BaySide Tavern). It’s an easy 20 - 30 minute bike ride and if you don’t have your own you can rent bikes at Nicolet Beach. We love The Bahn Scott, candy pork on a hoagie with all the fixin's, or the Charlie Brown sandwich with charred broccoli, peanut sauce, and pickled smoked onion. If you're 21+ try the Painkilla cocktail: bacardi black, pineapple juice, orange juice, coconut creme.

Watch the sunset from Eagle Tower

Eagle Tower access is on Shore Rd, close to the Golf Course park entrance. The tower is 60 feet high with the top observation deck sitting 253 feet above Green Bay, making it the perfect place to watch the sunset! There are 100 steps to climb to get to the top of the tower, or take the 850-foot, fully-accessible ramp that will wind through the canopy to the top of the tower.
